Custom Domain Setup Service for Big Cartel

Big Cartel provides a simple feature to allow your Big Cartel hosted shop to be viewed at your own custom domain. The instructions are provided by Big Cartel on how to do this but sometimes you don't have the time or experience to get this done.

So we thought we would try offering you a simple service to setup your custom domain for you so that you can see http://themes.tonkapark.com instead of http://tonkapark.bigcartel.com in your browser url.

There are basically two options:

Option 1: Root Level Custom Domain

I want http://domain.com to be my Big Cartel shop and I do not use email at this domain name. With this setup your shop pages will be at www.domain.com or just domain.com. You will not be able to access any existing files or emails at the root level domain.

Option 2: Subdomain Setup

I want http://shop.domain.com to be my Big Cartel shop but I use it for other hosting and email. Choose this option if you are already hosting a blog or other files at the main domain. Also if you are using email at the root domain setting up a subdomain like shop or store.domain.com will be a great solution.

What's Included?

We will setup the DNS entries and Big Cartel settings necessary to make this all work. The price does not include domain registration or hosting.

Where should I register a domain name?

There are so many places to register but we have had a good experience with 1&1 Internet, Inc.. They also do hosting.

Do I need hosting

Hosting is not required for using a custom domain unless you need a place for additional files, a self hosted blog, other content pages or email services.

The Process

After your purchase please allow up to 2 business days for response to schedule time to setup your domain. Typically it will be faster than that. We are in the Central Timezone in the United States so keep that in mind as well. We will need your registrar account credentials to access to setup your DNS entry as well as the login to your Big Cartel account. Shouldn't take more than 24 hours once we begin changes for your site to be active at the custom domain.
